Watch Collection 2024

Simplifying My Watch Collection I've streamlined my collection since parting with the Apple SE2, focusing on three mechanical watches and three Casio models. This selection offers a good balance of variety and functionality. Current Collection Everyday Wear: Any Casio or the Rolex Explorer Travel & Outdoors: G-Shock Flashy/Occasions: Omega Seamaster Weight Breakdown Casios: ~50 grams each Rolex Explorer: ~100 grams Omega Seamaster: ~165 grams Next Watch Considerations I've always had my eye on the Speedmaster or Submariner , but the rising costs have made them less accessible. Currently, I'm seeing: Omega Speedmaster (Pre-owned): ~$4,000 Rolex Submariner (Pre-owned): ~$8,000 Another contender is the Tudor Pelagos 39 , which is priced similarly to the Speedmaster. Price Sensitivity Watches below $500-1,000 don't excite me anymore, as they often lack the fit and finish I appreciate in my Omega and Rolex. Interestingly, I found the Omega Seamaster to be an inc

Casio 5600 - Watch for 2024

Embracing the DW5600 G-Shock I’ve recently swapped back to my 5600 Casio G-Shock and found that it fits me better than the A168. My tastes in watches tend to ebb and flow, but I’m glad I held onto many of my older pieces, as they allow me the opportunity to rotate through my collection. Black G-Shock - A Fashion Staple There’s something about a G-Shock that just completes my outfit. I’ve finally freed myself from the allure of the Apple Watch. In my younger days, I owned various colored 5600 models, which were nice, but they lacked the versatility of the classic black 5600. While other models had better features, I now realize I should have splurged on a 5610. Nevertheless, the DW5600 suits me just fine. The Journey to the Perfect Watch I’m grateful for my decision to purchase this watch in 2021. It helped me cull five other G-Shocks from my collection (two 5600s, a 9000, a 6900, and a GD100) that were just crowding my space.  Instead of feeling regret, I appreciate having had the chan

Santa Margharita - Valdadige - Pinot Grigio White Wine

Exploring White Wines I’m liking white wines more and more. Sometimes I do want something chilled, and I’m gravitating towards those with a dry finish. I found that the Santa Margherita Valdadige Pinot Grigio really hits the spot. About the Wine This Italian wine hails from Tyrol in Northern Italy, and interestingly, the grape is identical to the Oregon variety known as Pinot Gris. From the few Oregon samples I’ve tried, I’ve found them to be a bit sweeter, which makes me partial to the Italian version. I also plan to try some French Pinot Grigio/Gris to compare. Buying Strategy When this wine is on sale, I try to buy several bottles, as it pairs nicely with a variety of dishes, from pasta to steak. Flavor Profile Dry Not Sweet Balanced (not sour / low acidity)

Tattinger - Brut La Francais Champagne

Exploring Champagne: Tasting House Taittinger My next stop in the world of Champagne brings me to House Taittinger, and I look forward to comparing it with my previous tastings from Veuve Clicquot and Bollinger. I’m currently preferring dry wines with hints of apple, pear, or citrus, and I’m eager to see how this one tastes. Review After tasting Taittinger, I’ll rate it below Bollinger but above Veuve Clicquot.

Anker - Power Banks - 2024

I'm standardizing my portable power bank solutions and have settled on three models from Anker: PowerCore 10400 (A1214) - 10k - USB PowerBank 334 (A1642) - 10k - Type C, MagSafe PowerBank 622 (A1611) - 5k - Type C, MagSafe Weight vs Capacity: 10k is Optimum After some deliberation, I've chosen the 10k capacity as it strikes a good balance between weight and power. The 5k model is ideal for a quick charge, while the 10k can provide two full recharges, making it perfect for longer trips. Although a 20k option might be nice, it's unnecessary for my current travel plans since I typically have access to a hotel or power outlet. Given that I don't require 'off-grid' living, the 10k option suits me perfectly. Wireless vs Wired While wireless charging via MagSafe is generally more expensive and offers slower speeds, the convenience it provides is quite appealing. However, having the option to charge faster with a wired connection is also a nice feature. Update - Sept

Frantoi Cutrera Primo Olive Oil and Giuseppi Guisto Aceto Balsamic Vinegar IGP

Exploring Wine and Food Pairings Since expanding into wine, I’ve also enjoyed food pairings, and one of my favorites has been dipping bread in balsamic and olive oil. My favorite combo has been Frantoi Cutrera - Primo - Extra Virgin Olive Oil DOP and Guiseppi Giusto - Aceto Balsamic Vinegar IGP (red label) . The Giusto Red is a lovely thick balsamic that blends nicely with the Frantoi Primo olive oil. I’ve tried other brands but always end up back to these two. Quality Assurance Levels for Oils Oils have three levels of quality assurance: DOP : The most strict designation for balsamic vinegar, requiring it to be Italian and made from 100% grape must with no more than seven grape varieties. It must also be aged for several years. IGP : This medium strict designation allows a minimum of 20% grape must and permits the use of seven grape varieties, which can be grown anywhere in the world. It allows for other ingredients like caramel coloring and requires a minimum aging of 60 days. Comme

Nespresso Top Up - Pierre Homme - Hazelnut and Double Espresso

My Nespresso Journey: Convenience Meets Flavor Nespresso isn’t cheap, averaging about $1.50 per serving. While it’s still more economical than a coffee shop, its main benefit lies in convenience rather than delivering the best cup of coffee. That said, I’ve discovered some flavors that I find quite pleasant. The Pierre Homme Hazelnut and Double Espresso have become particular favorites. Iced Coffee and Espresso Experiments I’m also loving the iced coffee options, especially the LE Coconut , which I’ve become somewhat addicted to. I’ll definitely need to stock up on it when it’s restocked. Additionally, my experimentation with the PH Double Espresso has led me to find that nearly every strong espresso pod, like Altisso and others, works perfectly when mixed with hot water to create an Americano. This approach allows me to enjoy a couple of espressos for my Americano base or a refreshing LE Coconut on ice, helping me keep costs down while enjoying the convenience of my Nespresso mac

Android Collection

My Journey with Android Devices: A Comparative Insight Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to own and try several Android devices, and while I’m primarily an Apple user, I’m continually impressed by how far Android has come. In many areas, such as screen quality, cameras, battery life, and user interface, Android devices often surpass iPhones. Performance Gap and Longevity However, performance remains a critical area where Android still lags behind. It requires ever-increasing specifications on chipsets and memory to keep pace with the iPhone. Typically, after three years, an Android device is considered slow, while an iPhone can easily last another three years, maintaining usability for up to six years before it becomes comparatively sluggish. When Android manages to bridge that performance gap, it could signal the decline of the iPhone, transforming it into a niche brand. Despite my preference for Apple, I remain agnostic on the subject. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely to happe

Samsung A15 5G budget phone

Review of the Samsung A15 5G: A Budget-Friendly Option I recently picked up a Samsung A15 5G , and I must say, it's a decent budget phone. It offers comparable features to my older A32 5G , but with notable improvements, including a better 90Hz OLED screen , a robust 5,000 mAh battery , and 128GB of memory . One of the best aspects is the inclusion of a 3.5mm headphone jack , which is becoming rare in modern smartphones. Initial Impressions The screen quality is impressive; the resolution beats the A32 hands down and is even marginally better than my iPhone 14 Pro . However, I've noticed some performance issues after the phone goes into sleep mode . While the user interface (UI) and apps are generally functional, problems arise when apps are allowed to sleep. That said, I primarily got it to watch streaming shows, and in that capacity, it excels. Overall, it feels like a budget phone but is nicely designed to mimic some aspects of higher-end models like the iPhone 15 Pro Max —

Benny’s Bagels - McKinney

Discovering a Gem: Quality Bagels in Texas I recently found a fantastic bagel shop in Texas that beats Einstein Bros. in terms of quality. While the prices are a bit higher, it’s absolutely worth it when you’re craving a top-notch bagel. My Picks I tried the Salmon Lox with Onion & Chives Schmear , which was deliciously rich, and the classic Bacon & Eggs , a timeless favorite that never disappoints. If you’re in the area and love bagels, this place is a must-visit!

Concrete Cowboy - Negroni and Watermelon Cocktails

Tasting Notes: Negroni and Watermelon Energy Cocktail During my recent outing, I enjoyed a decent Negroni , which had the classic balance of bitter and sweet flavors I appreciate. Alongside that, I tried a Watermelon Energy Cocktail , which was refreshing and added a nice burst of flavor. Both drinks complemented each other well and made for an enjoyable experience!

Mi Cocina - Chips and Margaritas

Simple Pleasures: Margarita and Chips at Mi Cocina Sometimes, nothing hits the spot quite like a margarita and chips . At Mi Cocina , I opted for their margarita, which, while not the best I've had, was decent and packed a strong punch. The ambiance of the restaurant adds a touch of elegance to the experience, making it a great spot for enjoying a classic pairing. Perfect for those casual moments when you just want something simple yet satisfying!

Kirin’s Court - Dim Sum Chinese - Richardson

Finding Dim Sum in Dallas Finding good Chinese food in Dallas can be quite a challenge, but I’ve managed to track down a dim sum spot in Richardson .  This place is reportedly very popular, which means the parking lot fills up quickly, and tables are in high demand early on. It’s a testament to the quality of the food when a restaurant garners that much attention.

Moxie’s Bar - Plano

Dining Experience: Excellent Steak and Cocktails I ordered the steak , and it was excellent! Along with that, I indulged in a variety of appetizers that complemented the meal perfectly. To top it off, I enjoyed an amazing Old Fashioned . This place has truly got it all, and the prices for the drinks were surprisingly reasonable. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience!
