La Familia - Watch Collection @ Feb 2014

I'm pretty satisfied with my collection as it stands.  While lacking a proper dress watch, the Explorer suffices and in a pinch the Armani Chronograph.  I plan to swap the Armani with a tan brown leather strap.  For remainder of 2014 and hopefully 2015, I have no future watch purchases planned or desired. This was a very tiring process to pick how many watches are enough for me.  True to some a wasted effort, but for me analyzing why I want or need something and qualifying the justification had merit and value to use as a basis for other decisions.  Chalk it up as practice for bigger and more important decisions in life. Anything new would have to replace an existing watch.  I was thinking Hamilton Navy Pioneer, but am reconsidering and waiting further for a JLC ultra thin. Post 2016 Longer term, say after 2016 I want to remove the Armani and Casio Diver in favor of a Breguet Type XX and a JLC ultra thin to make for a clean Swiss only set.  Any economy watches would be j

Casio MTD 1010 the $30 Submariner Homage

I love a bargain and the Casio MTD 1010 is the best bang for your buck Submariner Homage.  Examples go for $30 on EBay.  True it's a Quartz, but I'm not trying to get a replica or knock off.  I just wanted a diver inspired style watch that the Sub epitomizes.  It does what I need.  And that's all you can expect. Basic Specs Quartz Movement 364 Battery 41.5 mm Size (Including Crown) 20 mm Lugs 10 ATM (But no Screwed Down Crown so this cannot swim!) The case back has very shallow grooves so an anchor style opener is good.  The wrench style openers caused me grief.

Casio G Shock Watches - 5600 GLX series

Casio G Shocks like Swatch are two iconic brands with a strong following.  Their watches are relatively affordable and most can be purchased new from $40 - $100.  What makes them mind blowing are the thousands of variations, models and special editions that few collectors could ever hope to amass.  But some do seem to get fairly close and their collections are cosmic in size and proportions.  There is something within their massive catalog that almost anyone kind find a liking too. For me, I'm fond of the squarish 5600 model.  There is something about it that speaks of the original DNA of the Casio digital watch segment.  Its not overtly massive like a 6900, 7900 and up.  I can't stand a watch that is more than 12-13 mm thick.  It ceases to be a wristwatch for me when it reaches the size of a pocket watch.  I am limiting myself to just the GLX series that has three base models: 5600-1 Black 5600-4 Red 5600-7 White There are many variations on the GLX series with qui

Watch Collecting

Everyone needs a hobby.  It's something to look forward to in life and keep you both occupied and stimulated.  For me, I love watches and have been collecting them for several years.  I got into collecting about six years ago when I purchased a second watch to complement my aging Guess watch that was then over ten years old. Quartz Phase I started with budget brands and picked up Zodiacs, Fossils, Citizens and Casios. My knowledge was limited and I only knew about Quartz and Digital as I had no understanding of 'Automatics'.  As I got better acquainted, I took the leap towards automatics. Automatic Phase My first Auto was an Omega Seamaster and was also one of my largest purchases.  Previous to that the only time I ever spent thousands on a single item was either a car or a new computer (when PC's cost that much).  It was love at first sight and I predictably then grabbed a Rolex the following year.  I also picked up several Seikos and Orients as I wanted t
