While my quantity of consumption was low, having a drink almost daily was having an effect and alcohol was no longer providing me the same satisfaction as it once did.
It felt like even though it was 1 beer or glass of wine per day as simply maintaining that it was turning into a habit and I was drinking daily only because of that.
Abstaining for 3 weeks
So I abstained for a week and plan to do so for 3 weeks to see how it goes and thus far I’ve noticed I no longer feel a need for alcohol.
And it’s true the 1st day is the hardest and I felt a desire for a beer. But by the 3rd day it subsided and a full week I no longer think of a drink.
Not quitting alcohol…but focusing on quality
I’m not quitting drinking. Rather, I’ll focus on quality by enjoying it perhaps 2-4 drinks per month. For holidays and special occasions I’ll enjoy a bit more.
That said the logistics will depend on the drink as a bottle of wine yields at least 5 drinks so I would have to consume it within 2-3 days. But in general, a beer or a cocktail can suffice once every 1-2 weeks.
