2024 - Collection Inventory

Personal Collections Review for 2024

It’s that time of year again—time to review my personal collections. My last update was in 2021, and since then, I’ve made some changes, most notably dropping the whisky collection, which I now treat as consumables. Here's a breakdown of my collections as they stand in 2024.

I. Total Value

~$13,200

The total value of my collections is relatively modest, with a few items making up the bulk of the value—namely my Rolex, Omega, and iPhone 16. Without those high-value pieces, the rest of my collection is worth around $2,400.

That said, I’m considering a major purchase in 2025, which could significantly impact the total. I’m eyeing a Rolex Submariner 14060 or an Omega Speedmaster Professional, budgeting between $4,000 to $8,000 for one of these iconic pieces. If I pull the trigger, it would effectively double the value of my collection.

II. Full Collection Breakdown

1. Headphones – 9

Total Value: ~$600

I’ve streamlined my headphone collection a bit since my last review. I parted with my AKGs and couldn’t find a third pair of old Apple earbuds, but I’ve added a few wireless options, including some new Lightning Apple Earbuds.

I also gave away my AirPods Pro and sold my Klipsch R6i and Beats Urbeats—the AirPods Pro didn’t really work for me, as I prefer the regular AirPods. Wireless technology has come a long way, and now I find myself using Bluetooth headphones more often than wired ones. In fact, I’m considering investing in a higher-quality Bluetooth pair in 2024 or 2025.

Collection Highlights:

  • Over-Ear:
    • Audio Technica ATH-MSR7
    • Audio Technica ATH-M50x
  • On-Ear:
    • Grado SR80e
  • In-Ear:
    • Apple Earbuds - Lightning
    • Apple Earbuds - 3.5mm x2
  • Wireless:
    • Apple AirPods Gen 2 (added 2024)
    • Powerbeats 2
    • JBL 510BT
    • Voulau V8

2. Tech – 12

Total Value: ~$3,000

I upgraded my phone, swapping my iPhone 11 for the iPhone 14 Pro. Aside from that, I haven’t added much new tech, though I did get an iPhone 16. The biggest change here is the addition of an iMac M3, and I’ve even picked up another iPhone 6s, as they’re so old now people are giving them away.

While I’ve pared down my collection a bit, I may add an iMac desktop later in 2024, but that’s the only planned tech upgrade for the time being.

Collection Highlights:

  • Phones:
    • iPhone 16 (added 2024)
    • iPhone 14 Pro
    • iPhone 6s
    • iPhone 4
  • Tablets:
    • iPad 2
  • Laptops:
    • iMac M3 (added 2024)
    • HP i7
    • HP i3
  • Gaming:
    • RG351p
  • Battery Packs:
    • Anker 10k (added 2024)
    • Anker 10k
    • Anker 5k

3. Watches – 6

Total Value: ~$8,000

My watch collection has become more streamlined, with the sale of my Seiko and Victorinox pieces. I added the Apple Watch SE2 for a while, but after a year of use, I’ve realized I prefer wearing my Rolex or Casio. That said, the Apple Watch still has its place for travel and workouts.

Looking ahead, I’m thinking about adding either a Rolex Submariner 14060 or an Omega Speedmaster Professional in 2025, which would significantly increase the total value of my collection.

Collection Highlights:

  • Mechanical Watches:
    • Rolex Explorer 114270
    • Omega Seamaster 2531.80
    • Zenith Cal 126
  • Digital Watches:
    • Casio A168 Silver
    • Casio A168 Gold (added 2024)
    • Casio DW-5600
  • Smartwatch:
    • Apple Watch SE2 44mm (donated 2024)

4. Swiss Army Knives – 34

Total Value: ~$500

In 2023, I really expanded my Swiss Army Knife collection, growing it to a total of 34 pieces. There are so many models to go through, so I haven’t inventoried them all yet, but here’s a quick overview of the breakdown:

Collection Highlights:

  • 111mm: 1
  • Alox: 4
  • 91mm: 18
  • 58mm: 10
  • Other: 1

5. Sneakers – 8

Total Value: ~$700

I’ve made some notable updates to my sneaker collection. I’m now focusing primarily on Nike, especially Air Force 1 and Air Jordans, and have moved away from my old preference for Onitsuka and Adidas. I plan to swap out my 9.5M AJ1 for a pair of Adidas Stan Smith and a replacement 10.5M AJ1 Reverse Black Toe. The 9.5M AJ1 Reverse Black Toe will be retired and stored away.

Collection Highlights:

  • Nike:
    • AF 1 2007 9M Triple White
    • AF 1 2007 10M Team Red
    • AJ1 Low 10.5M Flight Club
    • AJ1 Low 10.5M Reverse Black Toe (added 2024)
    • AJ1 Low 9.5M Reverse Black Toe
    • AJ1 Mid 9.5M Spartan Swoosh
    • React Miler 10M
  • Adidas:
    • Stan Smith 10M (added 2024)

6. Fountain Pens – 4

Total Value: ~$400 (including ink sets)

No major changes here, though I do have 8 bottles of Iroshizuku ink to complement my collection.

Collection Highlights:

  • Pilot Custom 74
  • Pilot Metropolitan (x3)

Final Thoughts

Overall, 2024 has seen some evolution in my collections. While I’ve parted with a few items, I’ve also added some significant pieces, particularly in watches and tech. With a potential big acquisition in 2025, the value of my collections is poised to grow significantly. I look forward to continuing this hobby and keeping track of the changes in future reviews!

Sony MDR-ZX100 vs ZX-110 vs ZX310 Series Headphones

Sony ZX Series Headphones Review: A Budget-Friendly Sound Choice If you’re on the hunt for budget-friendly headphones with decent quality, the Sony ZX Series is definitely worth considering. I happen to own several models from the lineup: ZX-100 ZX-110 ZX-310 Let’s dive into how they compare in terms of build quality, cost, specs, sound, and overall value. Build Quality: ZX-310 Takes the Lead The Sony ZX series headphones primarily feature a durable plastic construction. My ZX-100 has lasted over 2½ years, enduring countless tosses into my backpack and car without any issues. However, the lower-end ZX-100 and ZX-110 models have a significant downside: poor-quality earpads. Over time, these earpads disintegrate, leaving vinyl flakes that stick to your hair and ears. The ZX-310, on the other hand, comes with upgraded earpads that don’t suffer from this problem, making them a clear winner in the build department. Cost Comparison: ZX-100/110 Wins for Affordability While the ZX-310 model co...

Casio G-Shock 5600 vs 6900 vs 9000

G-Shock Preferences and Favorites After trying out several G-Shock models, I've developed a better sense of the specific features and design elements I appreciate most. While features are always a plus, my main priority is size . Here's how some of the models I've tried stack up. Size Preference: DW-5600 Series For overall size, the DW-5600 series stands out as a favorite due to its compact, comfortable form. It’s slim, lightweight, and fits well on my wrist without being too bulky. Although the 6900 series provides the benefit of a well-placed front illumination button, the 5600 remains the ideal size for everyday wear. Best Compromise: G9000 Mudman Series If I had to choose a balanced option between size, comfort, and functionality, the G9000 Mudman series would be it. The buttons are slightly tough to press, but the layout and form factor resonate with what I prefer in a G-Shock. Despite having different module versions (GLX, G, and DW), I find that these models offe...
