It’s incredible how a simple strap change can transform the look and feel of a watch. I’ve been on a journey with my Zenith, trying out various combinations, and nothing quite felt right. Here’s what I experienced:

Leather: Too dressy for everyday wear.
NATO: A bit too casual.
All Metal: This isn’t a sports watch vibe.

The Hirsch Strap Surprise

I never considered the Hirsch strap since it's designed for a 20mm lug width, while my Zenith is 19mm. To my surprise, it fits—barely! This unexpected combination has turned out to be a fantastic choice.

The Result

I’m really enjoying this new setup. It strikes a balance between semi-formal and semi-casual, making it ideal for daily wear. This experience has reinforced the importance of experimenting with different styles; you never know what combination might work perfectly!

Update - 8/2/22: The Timex Mk 1 Mechanical Temptation

The watch bug has bitten again. I came across the beautiful Timex Mk 1 Mechanical for $99, and I was tempted to add it to my collection. However, I decided to dig out my Zenith instead, which helped curb my impulse buying.

It seems to have worked, as I’ll only consider a new field watch if I decide to replace the Zenith. Ironically, I already own the Rolex Explorer, which is considered one of the best field watches out there, yet I seldom wear it.

The Affordable Appeal

I often find myself gravitating towards more affordable timepieces like the Timex or Seiko 5. Still, I’m sticking with the Zenith and my Omega Seamaster for now. It’s a strange dilemma but one I’m content with at the moment.

Looking Ahead

I’m holding off on expanding my collection as I await the release of the Apple Watch and the much-anticipated Omega x Swatch collaboration. For now, I’m satisfied with my current lineup and excited to see what new combinations or pieces might catch my eye in the future!
